More from Upward Bound - July 26th
These Oakland kids don’t fully understand the benefit of the program that they are in. Sure, there are slight conflicts with the way students understand academics and the delivery style that the teachers express to the students, but there is still a missing global factor. Workshops get the kids to express their different skills and abilities. Yet..I can’t quite describe the missing...
At the Computer Lab waiting for Study Hall to...
Yeah, so I’m here at Holy Names University waiting for my shift in tutorial session. Usually from 8:00-9:30pm, I get word that study hall will be from 8:30-10pm instead. With the help of our new teacher, Mr. Franco, he has made my and Favor’s job much easier. Thank goodness he’s a great teacher. Essentially we don’t have to reteach stuff (and sometimes on the fly) during...
Update on Upward Bound - 7/22/10
What happened this morning:
1) I subbed for Mr. Vessali this morning. The good news was I taught the class how to identify coordinate points that lie in quadrants, how to graph and determine coordinates of points on the coordinate plane, and how to graph an equation using XY-tables. The bad news was Raj didn’t do anything except talk the whole way through while he was supposed to do...
From Yahoo News - Still can't find a job? Good... →
AP - Senate Democrats broke through a stubborn Republican filibuster Tuesday and pressed to restart jobless benefits for 2 1/2 million Americans still unable to find work in the frail national economic recovery. The Democrats were victorious by the single vote of a new senator sworn in only moments earlier.
July 20th - Mustang Dusted
I got home from Oakland tonight only 30 minutes ago (10pm) and had an impromptu racing challenge with what I think is a 1984 or 1985 white Ford Mustang with modified set of headlights. I saw the car turn right out of Borges Lane onto Flosden/Marine World Parkway toward American Canyon Vintage Ranch. If anyone in my neighborhood knows, that road then becomes Newell Drive on the American Canyon city...
Summer program: Upward Bound update - New Teacher...
Obviously, I have not been updating anything about myself on this topic. I’ve been busy as a teaching assistant/tutor for the math classes I’ve been assigned. I just got word today that my 1st period intermediate algebra teacher I’ve been TA-ing for is leaving. Apparently, he has accepted a job elsewhere and is making his way out as soon as next week. Thus, I am going to be the...
Get Familiar 2 - Upward Bound Project @ Holy Names... →
FYI: I’m a teaching assistant this year for Holy Names University Upward Bound. Other Upward Bound projects going on are happening throughout the nation. In brief, Upward Bound is a program funded by the state to help high school students become the first in their family to attend college and attain a 4-year college degree. I hope that next year I can become a math teacher in the...
World Cup Final - July 11th
I’m going to inject my feelings into my prediction only because I can and because I would just like to see the underdog triumph.
By the way, congratulation to Germany on their 3rd place victory over Uruguay. Maybe next time Germany!
Spain is clearly the favorite going into the World Cup. I read on several sites that they are still the favorites but not as much as the people who have jumped...
